From specialist support to classroom impact

Partnerships strengthened wellbeing and inclusion through more structured support assessments, counselling services and funding pathways. In the Alekarenge School and Murray Downs School partnership with Trinity Grammar School, psychologists were onsite and seven students were assessed, with reports used to support NCCD and NDIS funding. In the Roseville College and Tennant Creek Primary School partnership, the Head of Inclusive Learning and a school psychologist from Roseville College travelled to Tennant Creek for a pilot program undertaking Health Assessments for 5 students with the purpose of gaining future funding and to spent time in classrooms working with children who need learning support. At Tiwi College, for 2026, wellbeing support includes regular counselling sessions, with a counsellor onsite for 3 weeks each term. In the Milingimbi School and Pymble Ladies’ College partnership, wellbeing is also part of the shared work ahead, with plans progressing for DHANGIYUN (Holding close), a Yolŋu women’s wellness group being explored for Milingimbi, aligned with the Closing the Gap focus on long, healthy lives. In the Tennant Creek High School (TCHS) and Shore partnership, Shore staff modelled explicit, intervention-focused literacy teaching in classrooms alongside TCHS teachers, providing practical, in-context professional learning and reinforcing consistent approaches across learning areas. As Principal Petrina Hayward reflected,

“The skillsets and collaborative professional approach that Shore has brought have been the most important impact of this partnership.” This work has been underpinned by a shared commitment to flexibility and responsiveness, with both schools adopting a mindset of ‘trialling, reviewing and adapting’ to ensure initiatives remain grounded in student need and local context.”
