In 2019, Izak Rigney-Sebastian became the first student to go from kindergarten all the way through to completing Year 12 at Gawura School. Gawura was founded in 2007, the year Izak joined at age four, within St Andrew’s Cathedral School. Izak and his family are proudly from the Ngarrindjerri and the Pitjantjara Nations
We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nations who were the first sovereign peoples of the Australian continent and its adjacent islands, and possessed it under their own laws and customs.
We pay respect to their Elders - past, present and future. We make a commitment to move forward in a spirit of reconciliation. We value the unique status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the original custodians of these lands and waters. Our nation must have the courage to own the truth and to heal the wounds of its past so that we can move on together at peace with ourselves. We want a future where all Australians enjoy their rights, accept their responsibilities, and have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We dare to hope for a united country where all Australians respect this land of ours; value the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage; and value the unique cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and those who have come more recently to this land.
