Meeting with Eva Lawler

Andrew and Sean recently met with the Northern Territory’s Minister for Education, Eva Lawler. The meeting aimed to provide the Minister with an update on the City-Country Partnerships initiative, as well as a rundown of the many visits they had conducted in Northern Territory schools over recent months.

There was great discussion around the need for remote communities to access resources available to city schools, as well as the importance of city school staff and students learning about the richness and depth of remote cultures, including language, story, and song, and the pedagogies that work best with remote Aboriginal students.

The Yadha Muru Foundation City-Country Partnership aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people to learn both ways. That is, to empower them to learn in their own culture, as well as having the benefit of learning in Western culture. The meeting with the Minister was a great success.
