On Wednesday 14 June, a group from Milingimbi Island off the coast of Arnhem Land visited Pymble Ladies’ College to discuss a potential City-Country Partnership. City-Country Partnerships, delivered through the Yadha Muru Foundation, aim to boost outcomes for Indigenous students.
While at Pymble, the group also celebrated Elder Ganygulpa’s 60th birthday with a few students. It was a joyous occasion, and a reminder of the importance of community and culture.
We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nations who were the first sovereign peoples of the Australian continent and its adjacent islands, and possessed it under their own laws and customs.
We pay respect to their Elders - past, present and future. We make a commitment to move forward in a spirit of reconciliation. We value the unique status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the original custodians of these lands and waters. Our nation must have the courage to own the truth and to heal the wounds of its past so that we can move on together at peace with ourselves. We want a future where all Australians enjoy their rights, accept their responsibilities, and have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We dare to hope for a united country where all Australians respect this land of ours; value the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage; and value the unique cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and those who have come more recently to this land.
