Training Program on Groote Eylandt

At GEBIPCAC, the Anindilyakwa Teacher Training Programme, designed with Macquarie University and The King’s School, has taken important steps forward. Two subjects have now been selected by the local community for accreditation. The training space is being upgraded to support up to 18 trainees, and a Teacher Trainer is now in place to lead the program.

Supporting Assistant Teachers in the Desert

In Central Australia, the partnership between St Francis Xavier Catholic School and Carey Grammar is helping to mentor and support local assistant teachers. Their focus includes lesson planning and meeting key Catholic Education NT requirements.

Together, the schools are strengthening their connection with Charles Darwin University and the CALT team. These links are helping to build assistant teacher confidence, support microcredentials, and create clear pathways into formal teacher training.

One assistant teacher from St Francis Xavier recently delivered her first lesson. She said, “It went fantastic,” and proudly shared videos with the Carey team, demonstrating the impact of their work.

These kinds of remote school education partnerships are helping to grow local capacity, particularly in areas where recruitment and training pathways are limited. They show what’s possible when schools and universities partner with purpose.

Specialist Support in Ti Tree

Further north, Meriden School worked with the Ti Tree School community to bring in specialist support. Thanks to their collaboration, Meriden’s psychologist visited Ti Tree without the delays that often affect remote schools.

While on site, the psychologist observed students in the classroom and playground. They also spoke with teachers and aides to gather insights, write reports, and offer practical strategies to support student learning.

Long Term Investment in People

In different ways, each of these remote school education partnerships is providing practical, place-based solutions to long standing challenges. They’re not just delivering programs, they’re investing in people.
