A new partnership between Tennant Creek Primary School and Roseville College has been facilitated by Yadha Muru Foundation. Tennant Creek Primary School has faced significant challenges, including teacher shortages and resource limitations. The partnership with Roseville College aims to address these issues by focusing on health assessments, student wellbeing, attendance and professional development for staff.
The partnership will focus on improving literacy, numeracy and attendance through several key areas including special education programs and staff professional development. Tennant Creek Primary School students will also have the opportunity to participate in immersion experiences in Sydney to broaden their perspectives and inspire new learning pathways.
Roseville College is committed to genuine reconciliation and will build on its ongoing efforts to deepen understanding of Aboriginal cultures and history such as storytelling and songlines.
The partnership provides invaluable opportunities for Roseville College teachers to experience remote education settings, collaborate with Tennant Creek staff and embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into their teaching programs. Through shared understanding and collaboration, the partnership represents a significant step toward reconciliation and creating lasting educational impact for both communities.
Roseville College will provide a team of pro bono allied health professionals, including psychologists and paediatricians, who will conduct a week-long intensive NCCD student health assessment program in early 2025. Tennant Creek Primary School will work closely with families to support these assessments, ensuring culturally appropriate contextual knowledge for visiting health staff.
Tennant Creek Primary School staff will be offered access to Roseville College’s learning support team and resources, enhancing their professional learning opportunities. This includes systems and processes for NCCD reporting, evidence collection and developing learning plans. Selected staff from Tennant Creek will travel to Roseville College for professional development, while Roseville’s Inclusive Learning department will provide templates, protocols and resources to support Tennant Creek staff. A recruitment pack will be created to attract prospective teachers to Tennant Creek, highlighting the benefits of the City-Country Partnership.
Through its City-Country Partnership with Tennant Creek Primary School, Roseville College will also collaborate with Shore in their partnership with Tennant Creek High School. This joint effort aims to create meaningful educational opportunities, ensuring that both Tennant Creek schools benefit from shared resources and support to help improve educational outcomes.
